SEEKING CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP ?
To begin your journey towards Canadian citizenship, there are several conditions you must meet:
- Demonstrate proficiency in either English or French, which are Canada’s official languages.
- Hold a Permanent Resident (PR) status.
- Have resided in Canada for at least 1,095 days during the last five years.
- Ensure you’ve filed your taxes for a minimum of three years within the previous five years and cleared any pending income tax.
If one of your parents held Canadian citizenship at your birth, you may already be a Canadian citizen, depending on your birthdate. In such cases, to officially gain recognition as a Canadian citizen, you must apply for proof of citizenship.
However, you are ineligible for Canadian citizenship if you’re currently incarcerated, on parole or probation, serving a conditional sentence, or have been charged or convicted of an indictable crime. Similarly, if you’re under a deportation order, your application will be disqualified.
Upon successful acceptance of your application, you’ll be required to take a citizenship test. Exceptions are made for applicants under 18 or over 54 years of age.
