Are you an entrepreneur? Are you self employed? Do you wish to immigrate to Canada as a permanent resident (PR)? There are multiple pathways for the entrepreneur and self-employed to become a Canadian PR and a few popular programs are listed below:

Self Employed Stream

The Self-Employed stream is specifically for those with experience in cultural or athletics and is willing to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada. Example professions are musicians, singers, dancers, painters, directors, choreographers, editors, journalists, librarians, translators, producers, photographers, graphic arts technicians, film and video camera operators, interior designers, graphic designers, artisans, athletes, coaches, program leaders and instructors in recreation, sports, and fitness, etc.

Though prior business experience in their field is not mandatory, the intention to be self-employed in Canada after obtaining PR is essential.

Owner Operator Stream

Under the owner-operator stream, a business immigrant buys a business at their province of choice, receives a works permit, and then applies for permanent residence under the Federal Express Entry program. To qualify as an owner-operator the foreign investor must have verifiable and transferable management experience, sufficient assets to purchase the Canadian business, Sufficient English or French language skills, and own more than 50% of the purchased business. There is no wait time and the business immigrant with his family can apply for permanent residence during the first year of working in Canada

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Business Immigration Stream

A PNP allows a province to nominate a business immigrant applicant for Canadian PR. The minimum investment and net worth vary according to the province. Under this stream, the entrepreneur initially buys/sets up a business in a province, receives a work permit, and moves into the province to run the business. After a period, depending on the province, upon meeting the necessary conditions, the applicant can apply for Canadian PR.
