Great News – Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Program Update

February 15, 2019

International students now have 180 days to apply for their PGWP upon completion of their studies, and not 90 days.

Another significant update is the removal of the requirement to hold a valid study permit when applying for a PGWP. The study permit must have been valid at some point during the 180 days period the graduates have for submission.

These program updates are highly beneficial to the graduates as it gives the students time to collect the required documents to apply for their PGWP.

PGWP is an open work permit that allows international students who graduate from eligible Canadian designated learning institutions (DLI) to stay and work in Canada for a period of up to three years after their studies.

On obtaining the PGWP, they can work for any employer across Canada without restrictions, and most importantly they do not require a job offer to get this work permit.

On obtaining a year of skilled work experience under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC) A or B, they can apply for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Class.
