British Columbia has launched a new Regional Pilot for Entrepreneurs interested in immigrating to Canada with community referral.
The new program is designed to assist small remote communities in British Columbia to attract new businesses and create new jobs.
Interested entrepreneurs must first assess their eligibility, then complete an exploratory visit to the community where they wish to set up their business, present a business proposal to the community’s designated pilot representative, and request a referral from the community to register under the pilot.
To be eligible for this program, the candidate must:
Invest a minimum of $100,000 in eligible business;
Hold a minimum personal net worth of $300,000;
have experience of 3+ years as an active business owner-manager or 4+ years as a senior manager within the last five years;
retain a minimum of 51 percent ownership in the new business;
create at least one new job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
obtain minimum proficiency in English or French equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 and above
All candidates are given scores upon registering, and candidates with the highest scores are invited to apply for the BC PNP every month. Some applicants may have to attend an in-person interview to discuss certain aspects of their application if required.
Approved applicants (after signing a performance agreement with BC PNP) are issued a work permit support letter from BC PNP which is then used to apply for the two-year work permit with IRCC. Once the terms and conditions of their performance agreement are met, and all requirements fulfilled, the candidates are nominated for Canadian Permanent Residence.
